Systems Development

Working on a Client/Server system for a major bank in London City.  I am using a mixture of leading edge Microsoft technologies:

• SQL Server for persistent object storage and standard RDMS functions
• Visual Basic 5 to create ActiveX objects to collect data from the underlying object structure which uses VB4 and VB5 OLE/ActiveX Servers
• Visual InterDev / FrontPage 98 for documentation and discussion
• Visual SourceSafe for source control
• Office 97 for administration and e-mail
• Windows NT 4.0

Obviously my function requires day to day knowledge of all the above as well as understanding the underlying theory to enable me to create professional development solutions.

I am part of a small team creating a user application by fitting together the ActiveX components we are creating.  This involves making decisions regarding RAD / Re-usability compromises and creating an extensible architecture for future development work.  The fruits of our work are being used by other developers to create rapid solutions to business problems which leverage our existing architecture.

I am enjoying the challenges presented by developing such a complex system and the camaraderie that exists in the entire department.
